Fr. Thaddée Barnas, DLMPES’ lecturer, passed to the Lord
Father Thaddée was a monk at the Chevetogne Monastery (Belgium)
His Excellency Borys Gudziak wrote in his message: Fr. Thaddée, а Polish-American born in Chicago, came to Chevtogne more than a half century ago, carried by a passionate love for the unity of the Church. He was a dedicated, sincere ecumenist. He believed in a great, hospitable God and led us in prayer to the Lord whose house had "many rooms." Archdeacon Thaddée made everyone feel welcome at the monastery. He could sing the liturgical litanies in countless languages (over 30?), choosing the one that corresponded to the native language of a guest. Père Thaddée was indefatigable in attending ecumenical conferences, promoting an attitude of reconciliation, offering warm words to all comers. I will always be grateful for his outreach and embrace. І remember the long conversations that we had at and after Sunday post-lunch coffee, his willingness to pass on to me important texts and articles. His love for and careful celebration of liturgical services was inspiring and will be sorely missed. The echo of his prayerful voice will endure. I learned much from the good Archdeacon and thank him from the bottom of my heart for his monastic commitment, sacrifice, and witness.
May the Lord receive Archdeacon Thaddée into His Kingdom.
My most sincere condolences to the Monks of Chevetogne, to family members and the broad international and ecumenical circle of friends of Thaddée Barnas.
Our consolation is in the Resurrection of the Lord, which Archdeacon Thaddée will celebrate this year in the fullness of the Kingdom.
Fr. Thaddée Barnas taught a course Liturgy and Sacraments at the Distance Learning Master’s Program in Ecumenical Studies.
Eternal memory!
